MARKET WRAP

 Sensex up 1.55%@18509.70 pts, while Nifty up 1.73%@5574.75 pts resp. 

 European indices CAC, DAX up from 0.79% & 0.35% while FTSE down 0.05% 

 NASDAQ was down 1.11% while Dow Jones Ind. Avg. was down with 0.76%. 

Sensex down 291.94@18509.70 Nifty down 98.15@5574.75. The Nifty & Sensex is down near 1.65% breaking their 200-day moving average and heading to its second day of falls. Bank shares also fall a day after data showed advances grew at a slower pace in 2012/13 compared with a year earlier. ICICI & SBIN fall near 2 % at the end of the day.

Stock Market Update : RIL, Coal India, NTPC and Tata Motors

RIL, Coal India, NTPC and Tata Motors may grab investors attention today 

Reliance Industries (RIL) has agreed to a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit of its pending on KG-D6 fields and issues over scope and extent of its scrutiny have been resolved. The CAG had at the end of its first sitting with RIL in January suspended the audit of spending on the flagging KG-D6 block following differences with RIL over the scope and extent of the scrutiny. RIL had previously stated that CAG cannot contractually perform a performance audit on it and Production Sharing Contract (PSC) only provides for a government appointed auditor to verify reasonableness of all charges and credits. CAG too has now stated that it is not planning to a do a performance audit of the company but only wants to examine propriety of expenses made. For doing that, CAG wants the discretion for records to be requisitioned to be vested with the government or its auditor (CAG).

Asian shares, U.S. dollar capped as more data looms

Asian shares inched higher and the dollar was pressured with investors growing cautious ahead of new indicators that could flag slowing U.S. economic momentum.

Overnight, the Institute for Supply Management said its index of national factory activity fell to 51.3 from 54.2 in February, with new orders, a key indicator of future growth, accounting for much of the fall.

 

U.S. stocks fell as trading resumed on Monday after an early close on Thursday, when the Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX touched a record high before markets closed for the Good Friday holiday.

"The weak manufacturing ISM points toward softening activity at the end of Q1 and reinforces concerns that the fiscal tightening may adversely affect growth in the remainder of the year," Barclays Capital said in a research note.
